On the expenditure side, personal consumption expenditures account for 68% of total GDP, with purchases of goods accounting for 23% and services accounting for 45% of total expenditures. A total of 16% of GDP comes from private investment, while 18% comes from government consumption and investment. Consequently, net exports deduct 3% from total GDP since the value of products exported (13.5%) is less than the value of goods imported (16.5%).
A higher than expected figure should be seen as positive (bullish) for the USD while a lower than expected figure should be seen as negative (bearish) for the USD.

U.S. Consumer Confidence Rebounds Much More Than Expected In May
A report released by the Conference Board on Tuesday showed a substantial improvement by U.S. consumer confidence in the month of May. The Conference Board said its consumer confidence index spiked to 98.0 in May after plunging to a downwardly revised 85.7 in April.

With orders for transportation equipment pulling back sharply, the Commerce Department released a report on Tuesday showing a steep drop by new orders for U.S. manufactured durable goods in the month of April. The Commerce Department said durable goods orders tumbled by 6.3 percent in April after surging by a downwardly revised 7.6 percent in March.
