Economy of South Africa

South Africa is Africa's second-largest economy, with an emerging market and a mixed economy. Although the natural resource extraction industry remains one of the largest in the nation in terms of yearly GDP contribution, South Africa's economy is diversified with significant economic sectors such as mining, agriculture, energy, manufacturing, transport, and tourism.

The South African rand (ZAR) is the country's official currency. It is also accepted as a legal currency in the Common Monetary Area member nations of Namibia, Lesotho, and Eswatini, whose national currencies are tied to the rand at parity and are nonetheless generally accepted as replacements.

Bank of South Africa

South Africa's central reserve bank is the South African Reserve Bank (SARB). Its duties include establishing and executing South Africa's monetary policy, safeguarding the efficiency of South Africa's financial system, and, when required, intervening in the foreign exchange markets.

The South African Reserve Bank is one of the few privately owned central banks in the world, however, recently there have been discussions to nationalize it.

Interest Rate of South Africa

The South African Reserve Bank's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) is in charge of setting Interest Rates for the South Africa.
